The second meeting of the 2019 year took place once again at Hockley Valley Resort. The main message of this chapter is women making a positive impact in our community. The local group has now reached approximately 140 members. So far this dynamic group has raised almost $50,000 to support charities in just it first 4 meetings, In single or groups of 4 to a team with a single vote its evident that impact is indeed being made This event saw the following three charities randomly selected by all nominations received: Orangeville Food Bank, Community Living Dufferin and Bravery Park. The final vote went to the Orangeville Food Bank with an initial cheque presentation of $10,600.
Executive Director of the Orangeville Food Bank Heather Hayes. Heather shared about the Food Banks operational challenges and funding limitations especially where supporting children with the simplest thing like milk and fruit. 35% of those supported through the food bank are children. With over 100 volunteers Heather is the only employee, however almost $60,000 a year is needed to operate the rent and costs of the building to accomodate the operation.
